In the winter of 1981, a 23-year-old exotic dancer named Andrea Mona Altiery vanished from Anchorage, Alaska. She was last seen on December 2nd, getting into a cab around 11:00 p.m., reportedly on her way to the Boniface Mall for a supposed photo shoot with an unidentified man. Originally from Hawaii, Andrea had moved to Alaska and was working as a dancer, using the stage name "Enchantment" and was also known by the nickname "Fish." On the night she disappeared, she was wearing a black leather jacket, a red sweater, blue jeans, and brown cowboy boots. She was also adorned with several distinctive pieces of jewelry, including a custom-made golden necklace shaped like a salmon with a diamond for an eye. Her girlfriend reported her missing when she never returned home. The investigation into Andrea's disappearance took a dark turn when authorities began investigating a string of missing women in the Anchorage area, many of whom were dancers or sex workers. The cases were eventually linked to Robert Hansen, a local baker who would later become known as the "Butcher Baker." During a search of Hansen's home in 1983, several pieces of Andrea's jewelry were discovered, including her unique fish necklace. This discovery provided strong evidence linking Hansen to her disappearance. Hansen later confessed to the murders of 17 women, and it is believed Andrea was one of his victims. He preyed on women he believed would not be missed, often luring them with promises of money for photo shoots. Although Robert Hansen confessed to Andrea's murder, her body has never been found. It is believed that after he killed her, he may have weighed her body down and thrown it into the Knik River from a railroad bridge. The discovery of her personal belongings in his possession served as a grim confirmation of her fate for her family. The case of Andrea Altiery is a tragic example of the many women who fell victim to a brutal serial killer. While the legal case against Hansen for her murder was closed, the absence of her remains leaves a painful void for those who knew her. The official investigation confirmed her as a victim, but the full story of her final moments remains a somber mystery, part of a dark chapter in Alaska's history.
