In the spring of 1985, 28-year-old Cindy Louise Moore, a female resident of Troy, Michigan, was embarking on a new chapter in her life. She was a dedicated mother to her two-year-old son and was in the process of divorcing her estranged husband. With plans to create a new home for herself and her child, she had even put a down payment on a mobile home in Auburn Hills. However, her aspirations for the future were abruptly halted on the night of May 23, 1985. After finishing her shift at the post office where she worked in Troy at approximately 11:00 p.m., she was seen driving her silver and black 1984 Ford Tempo. A coworker spotted her near the intersection of 14 Mile Road and I-75 around 11:15 p.m. Cindy was en route to her estranged husband's residence in Warren to pick up their son, with the intention of then taking him to her parents' home in Independence Township where she had been staying. Tragically, she never arrived at either destination and has not been seen or heard from since. The initial days following Cindy's disappearance yielded few clues. A week after she was last seen, her Ford Tempo was discovered abandoned in the parking lot of a Red Roof Inn located at 14 Mile Road and John R in Madison Heights. Investigators determined the vehicle had been parked there since the day after her disappearance. The car was locked, her keys were missing, and there were no signs of a struggle or any foul play within the vehicle. Back at her parents' home, all of her personal belongings, including her clothing, remained untouched. Furthermore, her bank account has shown no activity since the day she vanished. The lack of any discernible crime scene left investigators with a perplexing mystery. Authorities have long suspected foul play in Cindy's disappearance. Her estranged husband was considered a person of interest in the case, particularly after it was revealed that Cindy had previously claimed he had assaulted her during arguments. He reportedly admitted to assaulting his wife during a dispute. Shortly after she went missing, her husband filled in the swimming pool at his home. This action raised suspicions, and in 1992, police excavated the pool and the surrounding backyard in search of any evidence, but their efforts were fruitless. Despite the suspicions, he was never arrested or charged in connection with her disappearance. The case eventually went cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss. Years later, law enforcement continues to seek information from the public, hoping that someone with knowledge of the events of that night will come forward to provide closure for Cindy's loved ones. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with even the smallest detail to contact them, believing that a tip from the public is the most likely way this long-standing case will be solved.
