Lashawnda Patrice Coates, a 10-month-old baby from River Rouge, Michigan, disappeared on August 1, 1991. The case began when Lashawnda was placed into protective care by Michigan's Department of Social Services after a disturbing incident where her father, Byron Ogletree, used her as a shield during an altercation with her mother, Samora Coates. After initially being placed with family members and in foster care, she was eventually sent to live with her paternal grandmother, Barbara Brown.
