In the small town of Camden, Tennessee, the story of Shelia Faye Bradford, a 33-year-old mother of three, took a harrowing turn in September 1992. She was last seen on Little Jim Drive between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. on September 21, 1992. Calls to her went unanswered after 10:30 a.m. that same morning. Shortly after she was last seen, her car was discovered at a relative's home with the keys still in the ignition, a detail that added to the ominous nature of her disappearance.
At the time she went missing, it is believed she was wearing a teal green top and possibly black shorts, and she was not wearing any shoes.
Just days before she vanished, on September 18, 1992, Shelia had taken a courageous step by approaching the police. She offered to provide information regarding a brutal 1991 double murder of Danny Vine and his fiancée, Della Thornton, in Camden. Accompanied by her 15-year-old daughter, Kristie, Shelia met with the local sheriff and a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent at a well-known local restaurant. Fearing for her life, she requested witness protection in exchange for what she knew, but was told she didn't have enough information to warrant it. During this tense meeting, an explosion occurred in a building behind the restaurant, causing Shelia to fearfully exclaim that 'he knows we're here.' That night, she sought refuge at her sister's house, a decision that tragically preceded her disappearance.
The morning of September 21st, Shelia returned to her own home to do laundry and gather some clothing. She had $700 in cash that she planned to deposit at the bank. However, she never made it to the bank, and the money, along with her clothes and shoes, were all left behind. Her disappearance is widely believed to be connected to her attempt to cooperate with law enforcement. Shelia's then-boyfriend, J.C. Bruce, and his brothers were suspects in the double homicide she had information about. Although his brothers were eventually convicted of the murders, J.C. Bruce was never charged in connection with either the murders or Shelia's disappearance. The case, which is now being investigated as a homicide, has left a void in the lives of her loved ones, who continue to seek answers and justice. In an effort to generate new leads, the Governor of Tennessee has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in her case.
