Mabel Tresner, an 80-year-old woman from Jensen Beach, Florida, disappeared on August 16, 1993. Living alone at the time, Mabel was in good health both mentally and physically. On the day of her disappearance, a friend arrived at her home to take her to volunteer at the Jesus House of Hope thrift shop, but Mabel was nowhere to be found. Later that day, her daughter visited the house and found the front door unlocked, which was unusual for Mabel. Her personal belongings, including her purse, car keys, dentures, eyeglasses, and jewelry, were left behind, and her bed was neatly made, with her sandals placed beside it.
Despite an extensive search, Mabel was never located. Witnesses reported seeing an elderly woman in a nightgown walking near the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart, Florida, around 1:00 a.m. on August 17, though it remains unclear if this was Mabel. Given her meticulous nature and her habit of never leaving home without her essentials, authorities initially suspected she may have wandered off due to a medical issue. However, over time, foul play has become a strong possibility in her case, especially considering the unusual state of her home.
Her case remains unsolved, and the Martin County Sheriff's Office reopened the investigation years later, seeking new leads to provide closure to her family.
