Bhagwan "Moses" Lall, aged 31, disappeared from his ranch in Loxahatchee, Florida, on June 2, 1994. He, along with his aunt Lilawattie "Lila" Buerattan, owned and operated an exotic bird breeding business on a five-acre ranch. Originally from Guyana, Lall and Buerattan had moved to Florida after previously managing a successful exotic bird quarantine business in New York.
On June 5, 1994, a feed delivery man arrived at their ranch and found it eerily deserted, with no one to receive the delivery, which was unusual. When he returned the next day, the feed was still untouched, prompting concerns.
Authorities, alerted by the lack of activity, did not search the property until June 16, 1994, due to a bureaucratic delay. By the time they did, they discovered hundreds of exotic birds dead or dying of starvation, indicating that the ranch had been left unattended for an extended period. Investigators also found that Lall and his aunt had vanished without a trace, with no signs of a struggle. Along with them, two ranch employees, Daljeet Hari Gobin and Roland Felix Eyoum, were also missing.
The investigation revealed disturbing details. Eyoum, located in New York shortly after the disappearance, informed authorities that Gobin had claimed to witness Lall and Buerattan being forcibly abducted at gunpoint by two unknown men. Gobin himself was briefly apprehended in Georgia after being caught using Lall’s identity, but he disappeared soon after his release. His involvement in the case remains a focal point for investigators, as he has never been found despite being a person of interest.
While no definitive answers have surfaced, foul play is strongly suspected due to the valuable nature of the exotic birds, which were worth an estimated $700,000. Some theories suggest that Lall might have had connections with criminal elements involved in the exotic bird trade, which could have led to his abduction.
