Dora Marie Silva, a 32-year-old mother of four, disappeared from her home in San Fernando, California, on May 8, 1999. She was last seen leaving her residence around 11:00 p.m., driving her dark blue and gray 1997 Chevrolet Astro van. Silva never returned home, and her family, who had no prior history of her disappearing, reported her missing the following day, which was Mother's Day.
Her four children, ranging in age from 4 to 15 at the time, were left behind without any clue as to where she had gone.
Six days after her disappearance, her van was found abandoned near Mission Hills, about two miles from her home. Witnesses said the vehicle had been parked there since either late May 8 or early May 9, but there was no sign of Dora at the scene. Despite extensive searches in the surrounding areas, including El Cariso Regional Park, no evidence has ever been found. Investigators suspect foul play given the unusual circumstances of her disappearance and the lack of contact with her family, friends, and coworkers.
