On May 14, 2014, 60-year-old John R. Supple Jr., an experienced fisherman from Lewiston, New York, embarked on a fishing trip on Lake Ontario. He departed from Wilson Tuscarora State Park in his 16-foot Starcraft boat, which was distinctively outfitted with camouflage and a wooden duck blind on the front. Later that day, another fisherman spotted him on the lake. However, Mr. Supple never returned to shore as expected. He was possibly wearing khaki shorts, a green and white jacket or shirt, and a camouflage life vest at the time of his disappearance. Concern for Mr. Supple's safety prompted an extensive search and rescue operation. Crews from both the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards scoured approximately 5,000 square miles of Lake Ontario. Despite their exhaustive efforts, neither Mr. Supple nor any piece of his boat was ever located. After days of searching with no results, the difficult decision was made to suspend the official search. The disappearance of John Supple Jr. has left a lasting impact on his family and community. In the absence of any new leads or evidence, his case has grown cold, leaving his loved ones without answers. An obituary was later published, expressing the sad reality that he never returned from his fishing excursion. The community held a memorial to remember and celebrate his life. The circumstances surrounding what happened to John Supple Jr. on Lake Ontario that day remain unknown, and both he and his boat are still considered missing.
