Matthew Milton, a 32-year-old scuba diver from Winter Springs, Florida, went missing on November 2, 2014, while diving off the coast of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Milton was out on a 23-foot boat with his brother-in-law, Jeff Stewart. After surfacing from a dive, the two realized their boat had drifted away. Both attempted to swim toward the boat, but they became separated in the water. Stewart managed to reach a mooring buoy, where he was later rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Unfortunately, Milton was never seen again.
Despite an extensive search operation, including Coast Guard helicopters, airplanes, and boats, covering thousands of square miles, no trace of Milton was found. After several days, the Coast Guard suspended the search. Milton's disappearance left his family and the local community devastated, especially given his reputation as a loving father and active neighbor.
