Alejandro "Tank" Pilar Vasquez, a 24-year-old member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, was last seen in Kyle, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation on October 29, 2015. He was visiting from his home in Dodge City, Kansas, and staying with his brother, Angel. On the night of his disappearance, Alejandro walked out of his brother's trailer near American Horse Creek and has not been seen or heard from since. He did not have a cell phone or a debit card with him at the time.
Some reports indicate he was seen knocking on his brother's door on Halloween morning, but his brother did not answer. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a gray or charcoal shirt, plaid shorts with blue stripes, and white and black Nike shoes.
The investigation into Alejandro's disappearance has been handled by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Despite air and land searches involving ATVs, cadaver dogs, and an airplane, no evidence of his whereabouts has been found. Alejandro's family has been critical of the investigation, expressing frustration with what they perceive as a lack of follow-up on potential leads by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Rumors have circulated on the reservation that he may have been murdered and buried there, a belief shared by his father, Mario Vasquez.
Alejandro is described as being of Lakota and Mexican descent, with black or brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. He stands at 5'7" and weighs between 185 and 200 pounds. His nicknames include "Alex Gay" and "Tank," the latter given to him by his brothers because he was "built like a tank, and he'd drink like a tank." His father described him as a gentle man with a good heart who cared deeply for his family. The Oglala Sioux Tribe is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to his location.
