Sheila Ann Lopes, a 71-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, went missing on August 27, 2008, from her home in Escondido, California. Despite her condition, she was considered mostly lucid. Sheila was last seen by her family around midnight in her residence in the gated community of Emerald Heights. The next morning, she was spotted wandering into a nearby house where her son used to live, but she was asked to leave by the new occupants. Sheila has not been heard from since.
She was wearing a teal-green sweatsuit, white deck shoes, and multiple pieces of jewelry, including gold bracelets, a black pearl ring, and a diamond wedding band. Her family reported that she had wandered off before but never for such an extended period. Although extensive searches were conducted in the neighborhood and surrounding areas, including by volunteers and law enforcement, no trace of Sheila was found. Her case remains unsolved, and she is believed to have left on foot, as there was no indication she used a vehicle.
