At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing jeans, a dark hoodie, and sneakers. Distinctive features included a small boil on his face and a small cross tattoo on his left forearm. His family reported him missing to the Lawrence Police Department on April 27, 2015.

Following this discovery, law enforcement conducted a more thorough search of the area and located additional remains. In March 2022, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified the remains as those of Lorne Casey. While this discovery brought a degree of closure to his family, the investigation into the circumstances of his death remains ongoing.
