The last confirmed contact with him was on April 19, 2016, when he spoke with his social worker. During that conversation, he reportedly mentioned plans to go to the lake with a friend. Concern grew when, over two months later, the social worker conducted a home visit in early June only to find Heitman's residence empty.
A missing person report was officially filed with the Columbia Police Department on June 23, 2016.
