Kianna Galvin, a 17-year-old from South Elgin, Illinois, disappeared on May 6, 2016. On that day, she informed her sister that she was going to Jim Hansen Park, which was a short walk from her home. Kianna was last seen wearing a black tank top, black yoga pants with studs on the side, and zebra-print Nike flip-flops. She also had on brown sunglasses. Kianna has several piercings, including a silver stud in her right nostril, a gold and pink navel ring, and both of her ears are double-pierced.
She also has a tattoo of a heart, cross, and a pulse on her right wrist. Although she told her sister she was going to the park, investigators believe she went to a house on Revere Road to meet a man to purchase marijuana. At 12:35 p.m., she sent a text to this man saying she was on her way to his house. Her phone disconnected from the cellular network at approximately 1:10 p.m., and there has been no activity on it since.
Initially, Kianna's case was classified by some as a runaway, but her family and investigators do not believe she left on her own. She had no history of running away, and her personal belongings such as her wallet, purse, and phone charger were left behind at her home. Six days after she was last seen, a neighbor of the man Kianna was supposed to meet found what appeared to be blood on his garbage can lid. Testing later confirmed that the blood was Kianna's. This same neighbor told police they had seen Kianna enter the man's house on or around the day she disappeared. The man in question told authorities that Kianna never came inside his house and that she left at 12:45 p.m. However, a neighbor contradicted his statement, saying they saw her go inside. A search warrant was executed at the residence in November 2016, but it has not been publicly disclosed if any evidence was found. The man Kianna went to see has since been convicted on an unrelated assault charge and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. He has been described as a person of interest in Kianna's disappearance but has not been charged in connection with her case.
The investigation into Kianna's disappearance has remained active, and authorities now suspect foul play, believing she may have been murdered shortly after she went missing. Over the years, there have been periods with no new public developments, causing frustration for her family and community. However, in May 2026, there was a renewed search effort at the Revere Road property after ground-penetrating radar detected anomalies beneath the surface. The South Elgin Police Department and the Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force conducted a forensic excavation of the property. Despite the promising new technology, the search did not uncover any human remains or new leads in the case. The home has since changed ownership.
