Daniela Moreno, age 8, disappeared on May 30, 2016, from Hialeah Gardens, Florida, along with her mother, Liliana Moreno. The two were last seen near a Home Depot on Okeechobee Road. They were reported missing the following day when Liliana's sister could not reach them and discovered that Daniela had not attended school for several days. Inside their apartment, police found troubling signs: the door was locked, Liliana’s purse and identification were left behind, and food was still on the stove, suggesting they left in a hurry.
Investigators quickly suspected foul play, focusing on Daniela's biological father, Gustavo Castaño, who was reportedly the last person to see them. Castaño admitted meeting them on the day of their disappearance and claimed they had an argument before he dropped them off near the Florida Turnpike. In the days following their disappearance, suspicious activities related to Castaño raised further concerns, including the burglary of a warehouse where Castaño worked, and his subsequent attempt to harm himself when confronted by police.
Authorities believe that Daniela and her mother were likely murdered, although their bodies have never been found. The FBI has offered a reward for information leading to their whereabouts, but the case remains unsolved.
