In the late autumn of 2016, a family's life was forever altered by the disappearance of 36-year-old Billy Gene Hammonds. A member of the Lumbee community, Billy was last seen in Lumberton, North Carolina, on November 26, 2016. His family officially reported him missing to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office on December 9, initiating what would become a years-long search for answers.
