Ruby Akers, a 75-year-old woman, went missing from Sherman, Texas, on January 1, 1986. She was staying temporarily at the Sherman Nursing Center, recovering from a dislocated shoulder. On the day of her disappearance, Akers requested assistance from a nurse to remove stitches from a cut on her finger. The nurse told her to wait for a few minutes while attending to another resident.
