Karin Elizabeth Mero, age 27, was last seen on February 28, 1997, in McCloud, California. Karin had been living with her boyfriend at the home of Ed Henline Sr. and his wife, and she was last spotted on their porch. Karin, who had a history of medical complications, including a liver transplant in 1994, was reliant on regular anti-rejection medications and other prescriptions, making her disappearance concerning. She also had distinguishing features, such as scars on her face and abdomen and capped upper front teeth.
Initially, authorities and her family did not report her missing until October 1997, as they believed she had left voluntarily due to a warrant out for her arrest. However, when months passed without any sign of her, concerns grew about her well-being. Mero’s case is particularly troubling because another girl, 15-year-old Hannah Zaccaglini, went missing from the same area just months later. Both women had ties to the Henline family, and suspicions have lingered about their involvement. Though charges were brought against Ed Henline Sr. and his son in connection with Zaccaglini's disappearance, they were later dropped due to lack of evidence.
