In the quiet borough of Queens, New York, an elderly man named Ghulam Muhammad vanished in the cold of January 2015, leaving his family suspended in a state of unresolved worry. At 74 years old, Mr. Muhammad was a frail gentleman, beginning to show signs of forgetfulness and other health concerns. He was last seen in the Jamaica neighborhood, a place he called home. His disappearance was not immediately alarming to his loved ones, as he was known to take frequent trips to his native Lahore, Pakistan, often to escape the harsh New York winters. This pattern of travel initially offered a plausible explanation for his absence, a comforting thought that he was simply in a warmer, familiar place. As time stretched on with no word, the initial assumption that he was safely abroad began to crumble. His family’s concern grew when they realized his U.S. passport had not been used since December of 2014, and their relatives in Pakistan confirmed they had not seen or heard from him. The New York City Police Department was notified, and an investigation into his disappearance was launched. Mr. Muhammad was described as having a dark-medium complexion, with gray hair, a grey beard and mustache, and brown eyes that had become somewhat milky with age. He had some difficulty hearing and was often seen in disheveled clothing, including a large, somewhat soiled beige coat, a winter hat, and a scarf. The days turned into weeks, and the weeks into years, with no sign of Ghulam Muhammad. The investigation by the New York Police Department has yet to yield any significant leads, leaving his case unsolved and his family in a painful state of limbo. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain a mystery. It is unclear what became of this elderly man after he was last seen. The lack of information has left his loved ones to grapple with the unknown, a heavy burden to carry as they continue to hope for answers and closure in the case of their missing father and relative.
