Amber Marie Whitmer was thirty years old when she was last seen in Springfield, Ohio. The last confirmed sighting by her mother was on May 28, 2016, when she visited for her mother's birthday. Another account states she was last seen on June 16, 2016, after being dropped off at the corner of Southern Avenue and West Pleasant Street in Springfield. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as being between 5'4" and 5'7" tall and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds. She has brown hair, which she may have dyed red, and blue eyes. When she was last seen, she was reportedly wearing a light blue spring jacket, a tank top, and either white shorts or blue jeans with sparkles on the hip pockets, along with Nike tennis shoes. Amber's mother grew concerned when she did not hear from her daughter, as Amber would typically make contact at least every few months, especially on holidays and birthdays. Despite her mother's repeated attempts to file a missing person's report, one was not officially taken by the Springfield Police Department until nearly a year after she was last seen. A local police officer who was familiar with Amber reported seeing her in an area of Springfield known for sex work. Her mother would frequently visit this area in the hopes of finding her, but she was never able to locate her. This particular sighting and her history were noted by law enforcement during the investigation into her disappearance. The investigation into Amber's disappearance has been ongoing since the official report was filed. Her case is classified as an involuntary missing person case. Law enforcement has her DNA and fingerprints on file to aid in the identification process should any new evidence emerge. Her family and the authorities are seeking any information that could lead to her whereabouts. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, and her case is one of several unsolved missing person cases from the region. Her case remains unsolved.
