In the early hours of a November morning in 2016, a then 36-year-old man named Dashand Lahki Stokelin, also known as Das, disappeared from Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was last seen near the 200 block of North Carolina Avenue driving his grandmother's blue 2016 Subaru Legacy. The last person to have contact with him was his grandmother, who he had spoken to late in the evening the night before he went missing.
She later reported that he sounded incoherent during their conversation and was struggling to form sentences to explain his whereabouts. At the time of his disappearance, Stokelin was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt, black Levi's jeans, a Cleveland Cavaliers hat, and distinctive maroon, black, and yellow Huarache Nike Air sneakers.
Dashand Stokelin is described as a Black male with black hair and brown eyes, standing at approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing between 190 and 200 pounds. He has several distinguishing physical features, including a black birthmark on his right hip, a scar on his belly button, and a hernia operation scar. Additionally, he has two tattoos: the name 'Marlene' on his right arm and the outline of a skull on his left arm. Stokelin was known to frequent the cities of Camden and Jersey City in New Jersey, as well as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a father of five children, and prior to his disappearance, he had no known health or substance abuse issues. His family reported him missing to the Atlantic City Police Department, who have been investigating the case ever since.
For years, the case remained with few leads. A significant development occurred in October 2024, nearly eight years after he vanished, when a boater using sonar equipment discovered a submerged vehicle in the Clam Thorofare in Atlantic City. The Brigantine Fire Department Dive Team was dispatched to investigate and confirmed the presence of a car that appeared to have been underwater for a considerable amount of time. The vehicle, a blue Subaru Legacy, was recovered from the water and identified as the one Stokelin was driving on the day he went missing. A thorough search of the car was conducted, but unfortunately, no human remains were found inside. The circumstances surrounding Dashand Stokelin's disappearance remain unclear, and his case continues to be an active investigation.
