Then, in 1976, a call from authorities in Texas brought a disturbing new development. Detectives in Houston had arrested a man named Gary Addison Taylor for sexual assault. Taylor's wife informed police that he had confessed to killing and burying three women and a man near a house he had rented in Onsted, Michigan. This information led investigators to believe that Sandra might be one of his victims, especially after it was discovered that she and Taylor were acquaintances and had possibly dated. Gary Taylor had a long and violent history, with attacks on women dating back to his teenage years in the 1940s and 1950s. Around the time of Sandra's disappearance, Taylor had stopped attending his outpatient appointments and left Michigan. After his arrest in Texas, he confessed to murders in Michigan, Texas, and Washington.
