On July 30, 1993, 52-year-old Gary Alan Love and his companion, Virginia Sacco, departed from the East River at Dry Bay, Alaska, in a Cessna 170 aircraft. Their destination was Yakutat, where they intended to purchase supplies before returning to the East River. The seemingly routine flight took a tragic turn when they failed to return as expected.
