Lynne Friend, 35, was last seen on August 28, 1994, in Hallandale Beach, Florida. On the evening of her disappearance, Lynne had spoken to her fiancé, informing him that her ex-husband, Clifford Friend, had asked her to meet him to pick up a child support check. She was never heard from again. Her car was later discovered abandoned with a slashed tire, raising suspicions that foul play was involved.
At the time, Lynne had just won a bitter custody battle for their five-year-old son and was planning to move to Tennessee with her fiancé. Clifford had fought to prevent the move, and authorities quickly focused their investigation on him. Witnesses reported seeing Clifford and his friend, Alan Gold, on a boat the night of Lynne's disappearance, throwing what appeared to be a large duffel bag overboard. Despite searches by the U.S. Navy, Lynne's body was never recovered.
Years later, in 2012, Alan Gold came forward and testified against Clifford, claiming that Lynne had been killed during a confrontation with her ex-husband. Clifford was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison. The case, which remained cold for nearly two decades, was finally solved thanks to Gold’s testimony, though Lynne’s body was never found.
