On a summer day in late June of 1997, 44-year-old Male Monte Parrish, along with his wife Linda and their friends Donald and Karen Johnston, prepared for a sightseeing adventure over the Alaskan wilderness. On June 29, the four of them departed from Merrill Field in Anchorage, Alaska, aboard a yellow and white Cessna 182 airplane with the tail number N3186U. The group had not filed an official flight plan, which was not an unusual practice for such an excursion at the time, but it was believed their intention was to take in the breathtaking views of Denali National Park from the air. The Cessna was reportedly sighted over the park, a vast and rugged expanse of nature, before it vanished. The disappearance of the aircraft triggered a response, but the lack of a flight plan made the search effort incredibly challenging for rescuers. Without a designated route, search teams were faced with an immense area of unforgiving terrain to cover. The presumption is that the plane crashed somewhere within the vastness of Denali National Park, but this has never been confirmed.
