Charles Phillip Wheat, known to his loved ones as "Slim," was a 34-year-old man from the tight-knit community of Columbia, Louisiana. Described by his sister as a loving and caring person, he was the youngest of three children raised by their father. In early 2012, family members recall that he had fallen in with a rough crowd in the Winnfield area. His sister remembers receiving a few desperate-sounding phone calls from him between January and the beginning of March of that year, in which he asked for money and expressed fear that something bad might happen to him. The last time his family had contact with him was in the middle of March 2012. After a few weeks of silence, his father grew worried and reported him missing to the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office on April 26, 2012. The investigation into Charles's disappearance revealed that he was last seen on March 16, 2012, on Iron Bridge Road, south of Winnfield and east of Louisiana Highway 167. Since that day, he has not been seen or heard from again. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are considered suspicious, and foul play is suspected. Tragically, just one month after Charles was reported missing, his father passed away, a heartbreak his family believes was brought on by the stress and sorrow of his son's disappearance. His absence at his father's funeral was deeply felt and further convinced his family that he would not have voluntarily cut off contact. The Winn Parish Sheriff's Office is the primary investigating agency on the case, with the LSU FACES (Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services) Laboratory also involved. Charles is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, standing at 6'4" and weighing around 180 pounds. He had several distinctive tattoos, including a red cross and chain near his left wrist, a biker's skeleton on his upper right arm, a Harley Davidson emblem on his left arm, and a "Happy Hour" bar sign on his right forearm. Despite the passage of time, his case remains an active investigation. His family continues to hold out hope for answers, pleading with law enforcement to continue their efforts to find out what happened to him. The lack of significant leads has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, and the mystery of his disappearance remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family and community.
