David O'Sullivan, a 25-year-old Irish national, went missing on April 7, 2017, while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). He had been undertaking a long-distance thru-hike, starting from the Mexico-California border and aiming to reach Canada. On April 6, O'Sullivan sent an email to his family from a library in Idyllwild, California, a town in the San Jacinto Mountains.
The following day, he was last seen checking out of the Idyllwild Inn, after which he intended to continue his hike northward along the PCT.
Despite extensive search efforts, O'Sullivan has not been seen or heard from since that day. His planned route could have taken him through a variety of trails in the San Jacinto Mountains, but it remains unclear which one he chose. His family and volunteers have continued to organize search efforts in the area, but his disappearance remains unsolved. O'Sullivan was described as having black hair and blue eyes, standing 5'10", and weighing 154 pounds. He had been documenting his journey and keeping in contact with his family regularly, making his sudden disappearance all the more mysterious.
