David O'Sullivan, a 25-year-old Irish national, went missing on April 7, 2017, while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). He had been undertaking a long-distance thru-hike, starting from the Mexico-California border and aiming to reach Canada. On April 6, O'Sullivan sent an email to his family from a library in Idyllwild, California, a town in the San Jacinto Mountains.
