Corinna Paige Slusser, an 18-year-old female from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, was a young woman with dreams of becoming a makeup artist. Known for being a cheerleader and an active student, her life took a different direction in her late teens as she dealt with emotional distress and mental health challenges. In the summer of 2017, seeking a fresh start away from her small town, she relocated to New York City. She was last seen on September 20, 2017, leaving the Haven Motel in the Rego Park neighborhood of Queens, New York. Prior to her disappearance, Corinna had been in consistent contact with her family, but all communication ceased after that day. Shortly after arriving in New York, Corinna's life became increasingly unstable as she moved between different locations in Queens and the Bronx. It was later discovered that she had become entangled in a world of sex trafficking. In August 2017, she contacted the police from a hotel in Manhattan, reporting that a man she identified as her pimp, Yhovanny Peguero, had assaulted her and stolen money from her. Peguero was arrested, and a temporary order of protection was issued for Corinna. Despite this, she downplayed the incident to her concerned family. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she expressed a desire to return home to Pennsylvania, a wish that would tragically go unfulfilled. Her family reported her missing on September 12, 2017, after she failed to attend her grandfather's funeral in Florida, stating that her identification had been stolen. The investigation into Corinna's disappearance quickly focused on the strong possibility of sex trafficking, with the New York Police Department and the FBI joining forces. Investigators uncovered evidence linking her to individuals involved in these operations, including a man named Ishi Woney. It was revealed that Corinna and Woney had exchanged over 800 text messages in the ten days before she vanished. Woney was later arrested and, in 2019, sentenced to 15 years in prison for the sex trafficking of another young woman. During his sentencing, Corinna's mother confronted him, but he claimed to have no knowledge of what happened to her daughter. Despite multiple investigations and arrests related to the trafficking ring, no definitive information about Corinna's fate has ever been found. The case remains an active missing person investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for her loved ones who continue to hold out hope for answers.
