In the autumn of 2017, the life of 52-year-old Kathy Jo Hemphill took a turn that left her family and friends searching for answers. The last time she was seen by her loved ones was sometime in October in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That day, neighbors reportedly heard her in a heated argument with her common-law husband outside their residence in the 5900 block of west 4th Place. Following this dispute, Kathy, a woman with distinctive green eyes and medium-length brown hair often styled with feathered bangs, vanished without a trace. Her disappearance was particularly troubling as her car, a white 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was also missing. It was out of character for Kathy to leave without a word, especially considering she left behind her cherished dog and all of her personal belongings. She was a woman with several tattoos, including a rose on her left breast and a bird on her upper right back, and scars on her nose and back, details that her family hoped would aid in finding her. Months slipped by with no word from Kathy. Her concerned family and friends made repeated attempts to contact her, but were met with varying and unsettling excuses from her husband as to why she was unavailable. The unease grew until finally, in February 2018, a family member could no longer ignore the feeling that something was terribly wrong and officially reported Kathy Jo Hemphill as a missing person. When investigators questioned her husband, he claimed that Kathy had gone to California, a story that authorities found lacked credibility. The investigation soon took a new turn when a man named John David Lee II was seen driving Kathy's missing PT Cruiser that same month. This discovery led authorities to publicly identify Lee as a person of interest in the case. A few days later, he was apprehended on unrelated auto theft charges, and shortly after his arrest, Kathy's vehicle was located. The investigation into Kathy's disappearance has been fraught with suspicion and a lack of concrete evidence. Her daughter revealed a history of domestic violence in Kathy's relationship with her common-law husband, who has been named a person of interest by authorities. However, a lack of sufficient evidence has prevented any charges from being filed against him. Compounding the complexity of the case, John David Lee II, the man found with her car, is also a person of interest in the 2014 disappearance of another Oklahoma individual, Richard Horn. Despite these connections and the recovery of her vehicle, no charges have been filed in connection with Kathy's disappearance. The case remains an open and unsolved investigation under the jurisdiction of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, leaving her loved ones in a painful state of limbo, still waiting for the day they will have answers about what happened to Kathy Jo Hemphill.
