Joleen Cummings, a 33-year-old mother of three, was last seen on May 12, 2018, in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was scheduled to meet her ex-husband to pick up her children for Mother's Day but never arrived. Cummings worked as a hairstylist at Tangles Hair Salon in Yulee, Florida, and was last seen leaving the salon after her shift ended on the evening of May 12. She was officially reported missing on May 14, after she failed to pick up her children, raising immediate concern among her family and friends.

Her car, a beige Ford Expedition, was found abandoned in a Home Depot parking lot in Yulee a few days after her disappearance. Investigations quickly focused on Jennifer Sybert, a coworker at the salon, who was later revealed to be Kimberly Kessler, a woman using an alias and wanted in connection to multiple incidents across several states. Surveillance footage showed Kessler parking Cummings' vehicle, and further investigation linked Kessler to the crime scene.

As the investigation progressed, it became clear that foul play was involved. Evidence found inside the salon and on Kessler’s belongings pointed to a violent confrontation, and despite extensive searches, Joleen Cummings’ body has never been found. Kessler was charged with Cummings' murder and later convicted, although she has continued to maintain her innocence. The case remains tragic, as Cummings’ remains have yet to be recovered, leaving her family without closure.
