Terri Ann Ackerman, a 56-year-old resident of Lochbuie, Colorado, was last seen in August 2018. On the afternoon of her disappearance, she had been in good spirits while visiting her daughter and grandchildren. She returned to her home, a short drive away, and later had a tearful phone conversation with her daughter, expressing that she would be unable to babysit the next day. Her husband reported that when he left their home early the following morning, Terri was asleep in bed.
When he returned that afternoon, she was gone, though all of her personal belongings, including her cell phone, wallet, keys, and car, remained at the residence. This discovery prompted her husband to report her missing to the Lochbuie Police Department.
The initial investigation into Terri's disappearance involved extensive searches of the area surrounding her home with the assistance of multiple agencies, search and rescue teams, cadaver dogs, and drones. Despite these efforts and numerous interviews, investigators were able to develop only limited information regarding her whereabouts. Family members expressed their belief that Terri, a devoted mother and grandmother, would not have voluntarily left her family. Concerns were raised about her marriage, with family stating that her husband was controlling and that they often argued. Terri had reportedly confided in a friend about the deteriorating state of her marriage shortly before she vanished. At the time of her disappearance, it was also noted that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
A significant development in the case occurred in September 2025, over seven years after she was last seen. Human remains were discovered on the property of the home she had shared with her husband. The Weld County Coroner's Office later confirmed the remains to be those of Terri Ackerman. An autopsy was performed, but due to the condition of the remains, the cause and manner of her death were listed as undetermined. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Terri Ackerman's disappearance and death is ongoing by the Lochbuie Police Department, with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
