Geneva Beatrice Long, a 27-year-old woman from Bakersfield, California, was last seen on July 29, 1950. At the time of her disappearance, she was separated from her husband, Joseph Long, and living with her parents along with their two young sons. Geneva and Joseph had planned to reconcile, and Joseph came to pick her and their children up from her parents’ home.
As she got into the car, Geneva reportedly told her sister that if she didn’t hear from her within a week, she should contact the police.
Joseph claimed that after an argument during their journey, Geneva exited the vehicle in Las Vegas, Nevada, intending to meet a friend. However, the friend later stated she had no contact or plans with Geneva, raising further suspicions. There were also disturbing details, including Joseph borrowing a shovel from Geneva’s family, which was placed in his car before they left Bakersfield.
Joseph, who worked in law enforcement, was later charged with Geneva’s murder in 1952, though he was not convicted. Geneva’s body was never found, and she is believed to have been buried somewhere between California and Colorado.
