Gerald Eugene Layne, age 32, disappeared on January 6, 1961, while traveling from Reno, Nevada, to a poker game in Placerville, California. At the time of his disappearance, Layne was carrying $15,000 in cash and wearing expensive jewelry, including a 1.25-carat diamond ring and jade cuff links. Layne, who was the acting general manager of the Riverside Hotel and Casino in Reno, never made it to his destination.
