In the winter of 1961, a 32-year-old casino manager named Gerald Eugene Layne vanished, leaving behind a life that was deeply enmeshed in the gambling world. On January 6th, Layne, who was the acting general manager of the Riverside Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nevada, told people he was heading to a high-stakes poker game in Placerville, California.
