Vernelle Pickens, a 36-year-old woman, was last seen on September 12, 1977, in Asheville, North Carolina. She had returned to Asheville to visit her family for two days after her release from prison, where she had served time for drug-related charges. Vernelle told her family that she planned to leave for Raleigh, but she has not been seen or heard from since that day.
