On May 18, 1978, 45-year-old Phillip Farris disappeared under tragic circumstances while on a fishing trip with his son, John, near Phippsburg, Maine. The two had taken a small dory out from the Phippsburg Boat Landing to reach a larger fishing vessel. However, their boat capsized during the journey. The following day, search efforts by the Coast Guard led to the discovery of John's body, but Phillip was never found.
