On July 2, 1982, Steven Westlake, 19, and his friend Randy Fuller, 20, went missing after they set sail from Brunswick, Maine. They took out a 12-foot sailboat from Gurnet Strait, intending to sail to Popham Beach. The conditions that day were dangerous, with unexpected northwest gales creating rough seas.
