On July 2, 1982, Steven Westlake, 19, and his friend Randy Fuller, 20, went missing after they set sail from Brunswick, Maine. They took out a 12-foot sailboat from Gurnet Strait, intending to sail to Popham Beach. The conditions that day were dangerous, with unexpected northwest gales creating rough seas. When they did not return as expected, a search was initiated.
