Nori Oyakawa Jenkins, aged 51, was last seen on July 20, 1986, after walking away from the Topeka State Hospital in Kansas. Nori had a long history of mental illness and had been in and out of psychiatric facilities for most of her adult life. At the time of her disappearance, she had been living at the hospital and was known to have previously been homeless, sometimes residing under bridges.
Her disappearance came after years of struggling with her mental health, during which she had also been involved in a tragic incident where she had been declared not guilty by reason of insanity for the deaths of her two young children in 1964.
Nori, who was born in Japan, had moved to the United States with her husband, Harold Jenkins, after they married while he was stationed in Okinawa. Despite her history of mental health issues, there has been no trace of her since she left the hospital that day, and the circumstances of her disappearance remain unclear.
