Emon David Harper, an infant born on April 1, 1986, went missing from the House of Prayer, a religious community in Micanopy, Florida, on January 1, 1988. His disappearance is linked to the community's leader, Anna Young, who ran the House of Prayer as a strict religious group that has been described as a cult. Emon was placed in the care of Young after his teenage mother, unable to care for him, handed him over to a family friend connected to the community.
At the House of Prayer, Emon was renamed "Moses" and subjected to severe abuse. Former members later testified that Young had inflicted cruel punishment on the child, including locking him in a closet and denying him food and water. It is believed that Emon died from the abuse, although his remains were never found. Witnesses reported seeing his lifeless body and suspect that his remains were cremated. Decades later, Young was charged and pled no contest to second-degree murder for Emon's death.
The case came to light when a former member of the group reported Emon’s death to authorities in 2016, which led to a lengthy investigation. In 2021, Anna Young was sentenced for her involvement in Emon’s death and another child’s death at the cult. Despite the legal closure, Emon’s remains were never recovered, leaving unanswered questions about his final moments.
