Kohli, who also went by the name "Sonny Singh," regularly stayed in contact with his family until his phone calls suddenly stopped after that date. His disappearance was not reported until two years later, in June 1997, by an uncle residing in Fremont.
At the time, Kohli was living in Rohnert Park and had been involved in drug dealing and usage, which played a significant role in the circumstances leading to his vanishing.
Kohli had a known history of criminal activity, including cheating individuals out of drugs and money, and had witnessed a homicide where he was allegedly the intended target. There have been rumors that Kohli was kidnapped, taken to Mexico, and possibly murdered, but these reports remain unconfirmed.
