A significant development in the case came the day after he was last seen, when his vehicle was discovered abandoned by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper. The black Subaru Outback was located on Interstate 40 eastbound at mile marker 292.8 in Putnam County, approximately 95 miles away from his Eagleville home. On March 29, 2026, a group of hikers discovered skeletal remains in a wooded area near Monterey, between Highway 70 and Interstate 40 in Putnam County. The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office, where they were positively identified as belonging to Kevin Sharp in April 2026. During the recovery process, authorities found a Subaru key fob among the remains, further connecting the discovery to the missing persons case. In a statement, the Putnam County Sheriff expressed condolences to Mr. Sharp's family, acknowledging the difficult and painful resolution to a case that had concerned the community for months.
