In the spring of 2018, a 28-year-old mother named Nancy Troche-Garcia seemingly vanished from her life in Asheboro, North Carolina. She dropped off her six-month-old baby at the home of her ex-boyfriend and then visited his sister, explaining that she needed to travel to Mexico immediately because her mother was gravely ill. This was the last time anyone is known to have seen or heard from her. A few days later, on May 23, when Nancy failed to report for her job at a local furniture factory, a concerned coworker alerted the authorities.
The subsequent investigation into Nancy's disappearance quickly uncovered troubling inconsistencies. When police contacted her family in Mexico, they learned that her mother was not sick and had no knowledge of any planned visit from her daughter. Nancy, who had moved to the Asheboro area around 2011 or 2012 and later became a U.S. citizen, was described as a dedicated mother, especially since her baby had been born prematurely and was still breastfeeding. A significant development came in January 2020 when investigators gained access to her Google account, which revealed a Google Maps search for a car dealership in Madison, North Carolina, on the day she disappeared. However, this lead did not yield any further clues. More perplexingly, her Google account was reportedly accessed in Mexico in January 2019, about 30 miles from her hometown, but this information did not lead to a breakthrough. Despite the passage of time and searches conducted, including a search of the Deep River Bridge area, no evidence of her whereabouts has been found.
