Manuel "Noli" Duran, age 56, was last seen on December 3, 2018, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He had informed coworkers that he planned to embark on a 30-day kayak journey to the Philippines to visit his girlfriend and daughter. He left work for a vacation and was expected to return in January 2019 but never did. Duran reportedly prepared extensively for the trip, purchasing supplies, and estimated the 5,000-mile trip would take about a month.
