On October 12, 2022, Koa Kai Bernstein, then nine years old, his younger brother Kush Kohole Bernstein, and their mother, Abigail Bernstein, were last seen boarding a boat at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu, Oahu. The trio intended to embark on a year-long sea voyage with a man Abigail reportedly met online. However, the family never returned, and no confirmed sightings have occurred since.
