Wanda Duane Dyer, aged 74, went missing from her home in Lawrence, Kansas, on March 21, 2025. A devoted wife of 46 years and a loving mother and grandmother, she suffers from dementia—a condition that complicates her ability to navigate unfamiliar environments. On that morning, Wanda left a heartfelt note to her husband, David, indicating she was going out to pay an AT&T bill at around 8:33 a.m. She departed on foot, wearing a black coat with pink lining, multicolored pants, carrying a dark backpack, and often seen wearing a blue surgical mask.
Surveillance footage provides the last confirmed glimpses of Wanda’s whereabouts. At approximately 9 a.m., she was captured at a Bank of America located at 9th and Ohio Streets in Lawrence. Later that same evening, investigators believe they spotted her in Eudora, Kansas—about 15 minutes east of Lawrence—walking with purpose. The consistency in her clothing and posture has given law enforcement confidence in these sightings, though no confirmed sightings have occurred since March 21.
Following Wanda’s disappearance, the Lawrence Police Department promptly issued a local Silver Alert, which was elevated to a statewide alert by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on March 31, 2025. Authorities believe Wanda may be walking eastward toward Kansas City, Kansas, or even Kansas City, Missouri—both places holding personal significance, as she grew up and once lived and worked there. Her case file is also listed with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System .
David Dyer describes the ordeal as “a nightmare that doesn’t end,” worried that Wanda’s dementia would exacerbate her confusion and vulnerability. Their daughter, Phoenix Dyer, spoke of her profound loss, stating, “I miss my mom a lot … We need to find her”. David recounts Wanda’s late-night cleaning habits and sudden memory confusion that had escalated in recent months before her disappearance....Read More
