A Dream Begins: From Cork to Campo
David O’Sullivan, a 25-year-old from Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, embarked on a life-changing adventure in March 2017. Inspired by Cheryl Strayed’s memoir Wild, he set out to hike the entire 2,653-mile Pacific Crest Trail , stretching from Mexico to Canada. After months of preparation, including saving money from his job at a local garage and training on Ireland’s modest peaks, David flew to California with the goal of completing the trail solo.

On April 6, 2017, David sent an email to his family from a library in Idyllwild, a mountain town in Riverside County, California. He mentioned resupplying and preparing to continue his hike into the San Jacinto Mountains.
