Murray Arthur Leonard, known to some as Arthur Leonard Murray, was a 59-year-old resident of Williamsport, Maryland, when he vanished without a trace on April 2, 1985. Described as a white male standing between 5'8" and 5'10" and weighing approximately 165 to 185 pounds, Leonard had brown hair and green eyes. He was known to wear glasses with plastic covers that gave the lenses a tinted appearance. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a cotton short-sleeve shirt, a winter flannel shirt, brown Levi work pants, possibly boots, and a Timex watch with a stretch band .
On the day Leonard disappeared, a neighbor reported seeing him at his residence on Kemps Mill Road. The neighbor noted that Leonard appeared upset over some domestic issues. Later, when authorities began investigating his disappearance, they found his truck parked at his residence with the keys inside, along with his dogs and personal belongings. There were no signs of a struggle or forced entry, and Leonard had seemingly vanished without a trace .
Leonard's personal life was marked by turmoil. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 and re-enlisted in 1947, but was dishonorably discharged. At the time of his disappearance, he was estranged from his wife, Gloria V.J. Murray. She reported him missing and told authorities that one of the last times she saw him, he handed her a half-dozen yellow roses, which she interpreted as a goodbye gesture .
Over the years, the Washington County Sheriff's Office conducted numerous investigations into Leonard's disappearance. They re-interviewed his family and acquaintances, conducted polygraph tests, and submitted his information when unidentified remains were found across the country. In June 1986, skeletal remains were found in Charles Town, West Virginia, but were ruled out as Leonard's because they included teeth, and Leonard reportedly had no teeth. Despite these efforts, no new information has emerged about his whereabouts ....Read More
