A Life Rooted in the Heartland

David Joseph Spies was born on June 25, 1950, in Hays, Kansas. He graduated from high school in Salina, Kansas, in 1968. In the early 1970s, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and received a general discharge. Described as a man who moved frequently and lacked a permanent residence, David often relied on hitchhiking for transportation. He had brown hair and brown eyes, stood 5'9" tall, and weighed approximately 185 pounds. Notably, he had missing teeth and may have worn a partial denture.  

The Last Known Contact

On July 3, 1997, David made a phone call to his brother from Omaha, Nebraska. During this conversation, he mentioned plans to hitchhike back to Salina, Kansas, within a day or two.
