Santiago Hamiez Benitez, a 24-year-old resident of Potomac, Maryland, was known for his outgoing and ambitious nature. Living in the 8100 block of Inverness Ridge Drive, he maintained close ties with his family and friends. On October 6, 2001, Santiago informed his family that he planned to visit a friend in New York. However, he never arrived at his destination and was never heard from again. His sudden disappearance raised immediate concerns among his loved ones, as it was uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning .
Delayed Reporting and Initial Investigation
Despite the family's concerns, Santiago was not officially reported missing until February 5, 2002. The Montgomery County Police Department launched an extensive investigation into his disappearance. Officers conducted searches in the area and interviewed potential witnesses, but no substantial leads emerged.
