A Routine Day Turns Mysterious

On the afternoon of September 25, 2019, Erica Lynn Thompson, a 53-year-old resident of Brookfield, Illinois, was captured on security cameras making a bank deposit at the Eight Corners business district near her home. This would be the last confirmed sighting of her. The following day, she failed to report to her job as a comptroller at Empire Hard Chrome Inc. in Chicago, an uncharacteristic absence that raised immediate concern among her family and colleagues. Her son, Michael Russo, visited her residence on October 1 and found the back door open, the air conditioning running, and signs of neglect such as moldy dishes and cat vomit—conditions inconsistent with Erica's known habits. Her two cats were found inside, but Erica, along with her purse, identification, keys, and her dark purple 2014 Nissan Juke , were missing.
