A Promising Life Cut Short
Cory J. Rhinehart, a 28-year-old Army veteran, was last seen on the morning of March 15, 2019, in Zion, Illinois. He left his apartment, which he shared with his sister, dressed in black hospital scrubs, a black pea coat, and black Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers, heading to his job as a dietary aide at a local nursing home. His family became concerned when he failed to return home or report to work, which was uncharacteristic of him.
The Mysterious 911 Call
Later that evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a 911 call was placed from Cory's cellphone. The call was abruptly disconnected, and no communication occurred between the caller and the dispatcher. Authorities traced the call to an apartment building in the 2100 block of Gabriel Avenue, near Cory's residence.
